what is the sculpture in front of the Smithsonian in DC called?

there is a piece of art on a giant black pedestal in front of the Smithsonian in DC. It is made of twisted silver metal in a circular shape. Does anyone know anything about it?

  1. Considering the dozen or more Smithsonian buildings in DC. one has to guess whether you are talking about the red castle, the Hirshorn or some other museum. Neither of those shows a giant black pedestal nor twisted metal, so you will have to be more precise.
